We said goodbye to Camping Village Jolly (the cool equivalent to an Aussie caravan/holiday park) in Marghera (and our 2 bedroom/2 bathroom cabin) and had to decide: "east to Trieste or south to Tuscany?"
We said hello to Trieste as we passed all the signs and began the journey south.
Thank goodness it was a Sunday - it made entering Florence much easier than usual and we were able to drive right into the centre.
The Pope couldn't make it to Florence so instead they put on a bit of fanfare for us.
Approaching the Duomo (which unfortunately you can't climb on Sundays - win some, lose some).
Duomo external detail...
and Duomo internal detail...
Cool dancing skeleton (fresco on the Duomo dome)
Hanging by the Duomo (with the usual choccie icecream for Seamus).
Check out the surprising "installation" at the art gallery! Its a glad wrap spider web-thingy.
Mmmmmm - good window shopping in Florence...
If it hadn't been Sunday, I'm sure Greg would have bought me one :-)
Classic Florence.
Been there done that, Mum.
Where next?
Strolling down the back streets (we love to walk the back streets) we saw some cool balconies.
Farewell Florence from the bus/train station where we parked. Off to central Tuscany we roll!
The family took me out for Mother's Day dinner to a lovely little wine bar just outside San Donato.
Just to the left of Greg and Elena is the courtyard where we sat (below the church)
Seamus had fun exploring around the church above.
Elena and Seamus playing their hilarious high speed shooting game.
... and the most scrumdiddlioscious strawberries and cream pie for dessert (the other 3 shared and amazingly chocolatey chocolate pie).
And to finish my Mother's Day the kids performed a special dance as the sun began to drop toward the Tuscan hills (ohhhhh, how sweet... except it looked like it needed to be accompanied by some sort of weird rap!)
