16 May - Day 28 Cinque Terre (Venezza, Monterosso)

We started the day by walking to Manarola again. Along the way we had to pass seagull security - fortunately we knew the password. We also hid a surprise for our friends the Maier family who will be doing the Cinque Terre trail later this year (we'll send you some written and photographic clues later Lani, Ben and Dan!)

Manarola from the west

The first section of the Cinque Terre trail is also know as the "Trail of Love" and has various cute sculptures/installations/garffiti along the way

Its a very pleasant 3-4 min train ride between towns

 Vernazza from behind and above
Interesting paths over vegie gardens as we climbed higher
 Pretty gate

 Pretty prickly pear
 Pretty stairs
(the rest of the fam gave up at this point and stopped for fresh orange juice... mama kept clambering up the hill a bit further)

Mama's view of Manarola and the cafe where the fam' sipped on their orange juices

 The locally grown fresh citrus...

...is turned into terrific refreshing juice upon request

A very entertaining dog and cat on the way back down to town

Vernazza from the marina
... slightly more to the west

 Slightly more to the east...

A professional hanging out her washing over the tourists (she doesn't drop the undies!)

 Chocolate icecream-man in action (again!)

What a skilled photographer to capture this seagull in flight so close!

Wavy rocks (geology, geology Elena)

On top of the castle in Vernazza, looking west

...looking east from the top of the castle

 Seamus in Monterosso

 Cutest dog of the day

 Daydreaming....aahhhh another great day

After dinner walk to ther marina and the bay to the east

 Seamus enjoyed some rock destruction...

While Elena and Greg did some rock construction

Back to the  marina as we walked home weary but very happy

  1. I would like to use your second photo of the rock construction for our church bulletin. It's a very nice photograph and illustrates this week's sermon quite well. I found it through a search on Google. I can't find copyright or use information on your site. Please contact me at rob at pleasanthillschurch dot com. Thank you.
