We flew into Paris at 7.20 am after 33 hours travelling from Canberra (bus to Sydney, A380 to Singapore, A380 to Paris) to bright sunshine and ready to pound the pavement to keep the jet lag at bay. It worked, the kids travelled well and lasted until 8pm Paris time before crashing!
In the taxi from the airport to the Australian Embassy (actually, the apartments next door where our friends Tom and Tanya are based) we witnessed some exciting Parisian traffic - a scooter rider down (and out) on the motor way and the fun of whizzing around the Arc de Triomphe at high speed.Just down the road from Tom and Tanya's place we had pizza for brunch and dined visually on the beautifully presented fruit at the local shops.
Then we walked 400 m to the Tour-Eiffel (yes, Tom and Tanya live very close by - in fact check out the view from their kitchen, and the bedroom we slept in on the Day 3 entry!)
We decided the best way to get a feel for the city was to cruise up and down the Seinne. The kids and I waited by the waters edge while Greg queued for the tickets.
We strolled across to the Trocadero while we waited for our boat to dock.
Then we cruised (physically and mentally) and took in the sights.
We noticed several lovely chevaux as we walked and cruised - here are some snaps of our favourites.
We finished the afternoon by strolling to the post office and lcoal park with Tanya and the kids (Ethan 5 and Charlotte 2). Greg and Seamus challenged Ethan, and his friend John-Baptiste, to an AUS vs FRA soccer match while Charlotte and Elena picked flowers and cheered them on.
